This is a GREAT new super high-protein snack - I'll pick this over a protein bar every time. The Hermit jerky is totally different from the dried squid that you can get at Asian grocers - it's not sweetened or smoked, and it looks and feels a lot like a thin-cut, old-fashioned beef jerky. The Ginger Scallion flavor tastes great, kind of like a mild Worcestershire sauce, and it's nice and chewy. It's made from nice big natural slices of the squid's body that are the same size as beef jerky pieces - there were no tentacles, beaks or other nightmare sea monster parts.
This is the first dried seafood I've tried that doesn't have an unpleasant fishy smell or taste, or an oily or dry texture, or a weird flavor. It tastes and smells great! Asian-style dried squid snacks are a tough sell if you did not grow up eating them because a lot of them are very sweet and most of them are either flaky like fish food or contain tentacles. In contrast, The Hermit is very similar to beef jerky or biltong. In fact, it seems better than most jerky since it doesn't have a ton of sugar or nitrates. This is a HUGE accomplishment for The Hermit, the jerky version of the moon landing, which they somehow achieved without any weird additives or artificial flavorings.
